How long does testing take?
It depends on the age and attention of the student. Most students can complete the test battery in one day of testing. It usually takes about two hours.
When is testing scheduled?
Testing is scheduled on Fridays. Students should plan not to attend school on the day of testing.
What is the cost?
The initial consultation is free. Melissa will answer questions and help you determine next steps.
The cost of a comprehensive dyslexia evaluation is $550. This includes the initial document review, all interviews, testing, scoring the results, and a detailed, parent-friendly report.
Dyslexia testing is educational testing, not medical testing. It is not typically covered by health insurance, and we do not submit claims.

What is included in an initial consultation?
Dyslexia is the most common reason students struggle with reading, writing, and spelling, but dyslexia is not the only cause of academic difficulties.
For this reason, we provide a free initial consultation.
To get started, please fill out our contact form. Melissa will call at a time that is convenient for you.
If appropriate, Melissa will then ask you to submit some preliminary information and documentation. When she has reviewed your information, she will contact you to schedule a consultation.
Melissa will go over your information and answer any questions you have about dyslexia or the testing process.
She will offer her recommendations, and you will be able to determine if educational testing for dyslexia is appropriate for your child.
What is included in a comprehensive evaluation?
Melissa Duersch uses a testing battery that evaluates all educational areas recommended by the International Dyslexia Association. More information about educational testing for dyslexia can be found here.
Testing results are typically processed, and a written report is available within 4 weeks. A meeting will be scheduled to review the results, answer questions, and create an action plan for your child's success.
Parents are allowed, under Section VII of the Arkansas State Dyslexia Law, to obtain a comprehensive dyslexia evaluation outside the school system.
According to the law, this evaluation must be done by “a Licensed Psychological Examiner, School Psychology Specialist, Licensed Speech Language Pathologist, Certified Dyslexia Testing Specialist, or Dyslexia Therapist (A.C.A. 6-41-604 (a)(2)(C)).”
Melissa Duersch qualifies as a Certified Dyslexia Testing Specialist and as a Dyslexia Therapist. The report she produces qualifies as a comprehensive dyslexia evaluation.
